Gülbahar Hatun (wife of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II, and mother of Selim I, a.k.a. Selim the Resolute) had lived in Trabzon for 24 years while her son was the governor. Selim I has ordered a complex (consists of a mosque, a bath, a madrasah, an almshouse and her tomb) to be built in Trabzon after her death. The completion date of the complex is estimated to be around AC 1505-1506. The mosque and the tomb can still be visited, yet other parts have been destroyed. The mosque is an example of Early Ottoman-era architecture style. Although most of the ornaments had been rebuilt during the following centuries, the mosque is still considered to be mostly in its original form. You can also visit the tomb in the park, right next to the mosque.
